Publishers’ Notes

Choosing a theme for this Spring Issue of Escondido Magazine was pretty easy. The news for the past several months regarding likely curtailment of water delivery to our region means we must focus on ways to use this essential resource more efficiently.

We’ll leave the debate over what we do about bringing more water to our region to other people and another time. Suffice it to say…we’re all here, most of us don’t use water in a manner consistent with the fact that we live in a semi-arid climate, and water will be more expensive and less plentiful in the future. We hope you find the information contained in this and future issues of this magazine timely, relevant, and useful.

You might notice a slight change on our cover. As Art Director/Co-Publisher Kelly Effinger continues to refine the look of our publication, she has streamlined the magazine’s logo. We hope you like the look and, somewhat ironically, that the change was subtle enough you barely noticed.

You will also see the announcement of a new publication venture we are taking on. Escondido Mystery Magazine, is a collaborative effort between Community Concepts Publishing and local writer and movie-maker, Richard Hays. Richard came to us with his idea for a murder mystery with local residents as characters and integrating local businesses and landmarks. Presented in a campy, noir manner reminiscent of the works of Mickey Spillane and others, we thought it would be an entertaining addition to the Community Concepts Publishing family. Look inside for a sample and look for the first issue in April.

As we enter Spring we look forward to renewal and rejuvenation. Part of those needs are fulfilled in the American pastime…shopping. If you find yourself in the mood for a new pair of shoes, a new couch, or a new car, there’s no place better to fulfill that need than right here in Escondido. Remember, part of what you pay when you buy here, stays here. Help your city government continue to provide needed services and infrastructure and “Spend It In Escondido”! And when you patronize the fine advertisers in this magazine, remember to tell them, “I saw it in Escondido Magazine!”
